The Lee Smith Trust was established in November 2007 by Lee's mum Anne Smith, Jacki Robson & Lorraine Moore.
Thai boxing is very much a grass roots sports, and as such sponsorship opportunities for fighters to compete
are quite limited, Lee himself competed in Thailand on two separate occasions and was unable to secure funding
for his travel and it is due to this that we decided to set up the Lee Smith Trust which we hope will assist
Thai boxers of the future to compete for their club and country.
Lee started training in Muay Thai at the age of 16 and represented the sport both nationally and internationally. Lee was very successful on an international level, though injuries often brought his progress to a premature halt. Lee first represented his country at the European Championships held in Barcelona and went on to fight at the World Championships in Thailand twice and on the second occasion would have been in the medals had he not had to retire for the competition injured even though he had won all of his bouts. During Lee's fighting career he gained the following titles and had Lee not been dogged by injury he would have added to these:
World Championships - ranked 4th European Championships - ranked 2nd
3 British Middleweight Titles - IAMTF 1 British Light Middleweight Title - WKA
The Lee Smith Trust aims to support and promote Thai boxing in the North East of England, which includes the counties of Durham, Darlington, Tyne and Wear, Teeside, Northumberland and we have recently extended our boundaries to include Cumbria too. The Lee Smith Trust will further the education and training of Thai boxing students by the provision of grants and donations to individuals and clubs/associations
Also the trust makes donations to charitable organisations as the committee from time to time think fit.
